Good for simple synthetic checks. Needs some updates.
We had a gap in our monitoring along the lines of synthetic-user monitoring. We needed consistent availability monitoring of our web applications.
- It is an easy-to-use product and you can build out checks with Firefox Selenium IDE (no longer supported). A good measure of availability.
- Set the standard for synthetic checks and several APMs have copied that.
- It's very clunky. Infrastructure is large and very difficult to upgrade.
- SaaS and On-premise versions are different. There is an LDAP integration but users can only be assigned to one group (i.e. department). If you are in 2 departments, you need 2 separate logins.
- Update: they now offer federated logins
- It filled a gap in monitoring for us, but we're looking to move on.

Seemed to work well, but we didn't want to do a long renewal. Other products are maturing and better integrated with our systems. It works for now, but we're looking to replace it.

Great software, not a great for enterprise
We use Apica Synthetic for networks, servers, and application monitoring for the performance and availability of networks, servers, and applications.

- The infrastructure availability can be seen in a single UI.
- The ability to simulate high-traffic loads on applications is very valuable.
We actually preferred IP HostMonitor over Apica Synthetic, as it was more stable and uses less real estate. IP HostMonitor does not support true load simulation, which we miss from the Apica Synthetic trials.

The ERP administrator and software engineer use Apica. Typically the major use case is for testing and simulation using multiple currencies, locations and load potential.

- Specifically we monitor the front-end UI& background transactions, as well vendor applications performance and availability
- We have been able to test the availability of IT services such as help desk, DNS & hardware monitors
- We are able collect performance metrics like response time, time to submit, etc. simulating a users location

Great product, steep learning curve
We use it as product monitoring. We use it to simulate how customers use our products, with both web scenarios and more advanced API calls and some other scenarios. That way we know exactly where to look if something is not working. We also do this so we get the useful SLA information.

Apica Synthetic is perfect for monitoring our products that customers use since we create scenarios and API calls that reflect how the customer uses our products. However, for server monitoring and monitoring internal products, both Zabbix and Prometheus have the upper hand. Apica Synthetic simply can't compete with those products in those areas.

Apica Synthetic--the custom check king!
We use Apica Synthetic for many of our customers and it is very easy to set up and manage. We use Apica Synthetic for monitoring of both public and internal websites with simple URL checks and more advanced scenario checks. It is easy to see what has gone wrong with a check and also compare checks. We also use it to send out monthly SLA reports to the customers.
